The wild, roadless west coast of Kauai never fails to serve up crazy sunsets. The surf is bigger than I've seen in past trips. I wanted this image to showcase the backlit wave action.
I waded out into the tidepools to the edge of the waves, set up my tripod and stopped down to f20 with my 70-200 VRII Nikon lens and used the D810's ISO 64 to slow the shutter to 1/10th in order to capture the motion without losing the shape of the waves.
I did my RAW adjustments in Adobe Lightroom and then quickly finished the image in onOne's Perfect Effects 9 using both Dynamic Contrast and a toned down Fall Color Enhancing Filter.
The wind is up today, so I'm going to try and hit some of those waves on my kiteboard.
